Authorities have identified 22-year-old Robert “Bobby” E. Crimo III as a person of interest in the Highland Park, Illinois, 4th of July parade shooting.
According to an FBI wanted poster, Robert E. Crimo III is a thin White male with brown eyes and neck-length brown hair who weighs 120 pounds. His tattoos are also described in the poster, which include “four tally marks with a line through them on his right cheek, red roses and green leaves on his neck, and cursive script above his left brow.”
According to the poster, he is “armed and dangerous.”
Crimo’s alias is “Awake the Rapper.”
Crimo is a “six foot Hip Hop phenom” who was born on September 20, 2000, according to IMDB. “He’s the middle of three children of Italian descent.”
Crimo began uploading his music to the internet at the age of 11, but according to IMDB, he first gained traction with his 2016 track “By The Pond” featuring Atlas. His net worth is estimated to be “$100,000.”
Crimo is the son of Bob Crimo, the president of Highland Park’s Bob’s Pantry & Deli. According to his Facebook page, the father ran for mayor of Highland Park in 2020.
On October 15, 2021, the rapper released a cryptic track titled “Are You Awake.” The song appears to imply that Crimo was planning a life-changing act that was beyond his ability to stop. Drawings in the video depict a man aiming a rifle at another person.
A newspaper clipping about Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated President John F. Kennedy, is also shown in the video, as is an image of a victim shot with blood spraying from the body.
“I am unable to stop and think, like a sleepwalker,” he says in the track. “My actions will be valiant, and my thoughts will be superfluous.” I know what I have to do, and I know what’s in it for everyone, not just me.”
“There is no past or future, only the now,” he continues. “It’s more abstract than I could have imagined.” I can feel myself being drawn in by the atmosphere. It’s like a wave pulling me under, and I can’t breathe without it.”
“I need to leave right now; I just need to do it.” Everything has led up to this, it’s my destiny,” Crimo says. “Nothing, not even myself, can stop me.” Is there such a thing as free will?
“It’s what I’ve been waiting for in the back of my mind, ready to be awakened; it’s what I’ve been sent here to do, like a sleepwalker,” he continues.
