Three Kentucky police officers were killed after a 49-year-old man, who is currently in custody, allegedly gunned them down and injured several others in a mass shooting at his Kentucky home.

The Prestonburg Police Department announced the death of canine handler Jacob R. Chaffins on Facebook on Friday.

The shooting occurred in Floyd County around 6:44 p.m. local time Thursday, according to Kentucky State Police. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear described the situation as a barricade situation.

According to an arrest report, Lance Storz, armed with a rifle, opened fire on police officers in the area of his home, killing two officers and a police K9.

Five other officers and an emergency management director were injured, according to the arrest report, but state police said four officers and one civilian were hurt.
