The victims of the shooting ranged in age from 8 to 85. Five of the seven victims were adults, and the seventh victim’s identity is unknown.

The shooter, 22-year-old Robert E. Crimo III, was apprehended later that day after a brief chase and was unharmed. Over 300 mass shootings have occurred in less than 200 days this year.

Highland Park has ties to the Chicago Bulls organization because many players and staff members, including Michael Jordan, have lived there over the years. The team would also practice in nearby Deerfield, Illinois.

Given their ties to the community, it’s not surprising that the Bulls issued a statement on the shooting via Twitter.

The Bulls’ statement began, “What happened today in Highland Park was horrifying and senseless.” “Over the years, Highland Park has housed many Bulls fans, including a number of Bulls players and staff.” Our relationship with the community is personal, and it holds a special place in our hearts. We are mourning with the community and everyone affected by this tragedy, and we stand with them.

“Gun violence hurts our friends, neighbors, families, businesses, and communities,” the statement went on to say. “We’ve been in this situation too many times, saying what feels like the same words and expressing the same sentiments.”

The Chicago Bulls are committed to change and will use all of our resources to make a difference and help end the epidemic of gun violence.”

According to NBC Sports Chicago, the Bulls formed the Chicago Sports Alliance with the Bears, Blackhawks, Cubs, and White Sox.

It’s encouraging to see the Bulls and other Chicago professional sports teams putting their money where their mouth is and attempting to aid in the fight against gun violence.
