U2’s Bono and The Edge perform surprise concert in Kyiv metro in support of Ukraine amid Russian bombardment

U2 BANDMATES Bono and The Edge performed a surprise concert today in Kyiv metro in a show of solidarity with Ukraine.

The music icon praised Ukraine‘s fight for freedom against the Russian invasion during his performance in downtown Kyiv.

61-year-old Bono belted out classics such as “Sunday Bloody Sunday”, “Desire” and “With or without you”.

The U2 star performed alongside the band’s guitarist “The Edge” to a small crowd of fans including fatigue-clad members of Ukraine’s armed forces, back from the frontline with Russian troops.

Majestic purple lights turned the metro into a makeshift arena as Bono did his best to lift spirits.

In a speech during the break, he said: “The people in Ukraine are not just fighting for your own freedom, you are fighting for all of us who love freedom.
